As I discussed in my other thread, I pulled a 292 out of a 56 club sedan to put in my 56 F100.

Anyway, the valve cover stickers were long gone....I've tried to research it but I'm coming up with different pictures. Most that I see are the "thunderbird special" stickers. But then I see others with the "thunderbird" stickers. I also see the "thunderbird special" stickers on eBay listed as '57.

I just want to put the right stickers on my valve covers.

Thanks guys! Wink

Thunderbird V-8 is for 292.Thunderbird  Special V-8 is for 312.

Ok, thanks Mark. I guess I just assumed they were the "thunderbird special" stickers since it was a "thunderbird special" club sedan.

But that's what I love about this site....plenty of guys in the know around here. Now comes the fun part, finding the reproduction stickers. I found the "special" stickers but not the regular ones. Cool

This is the decal for the 312 motor - I got them from Mac's - and they list the other version for the 292's as well.....I beleive they are all made by the same supplier.

Brad: Whatever ones you put on, be very carefull on installation, they damage easily.. Also ensure the surface is very clean, no wax or oil

Wouldn't the truck have had some type of Ford V-8 decals?  Neither Thunderbird decal would be "correct" for a truck, so just go with the Thunderbird Special decals for the "wow" factor.

I found these "Power King " decals in my picture stash......dunno about how fun they would be to have - but definitely different.

I found a u-tube video listed on the web that shows how to fit really big decals on model airplanes. One of the most helpful ideas was to use a wide - 1-1/2 - very soft bristle, paint brush to work out the decal bubbles. It works pretty well.

Dennis would know where to find those, has them on his truck.

Mine came from Sacramento Vintage Ford. I'm sure other venders sell them.

True, neither would be correct to the truck but they'd be correct to the motor which is what I want. I'm also considering running the thunderbird special emblems on the front fenders of my truck just like the cars did. Thought it would give it that extra touch....those in the know would see it and know exactly what was going on, but for the others....it would be a conversation starter at least.

But I digress....thanks again guys for the wealth of knowledge. I knew it wouldn't take long for y'all to set me straight! BigGrin

Not sure on how correct you want to be, but a 56 with a 292 teapot 4 barrel had the decal on the black valve covers that said "Thunderbird V8". I believe the added "Special" was for the 312's only. The new one we bought in '56 had the 292 and that's what it said. All the Fairlanes I remember had the red t-bird on the fender for both the 292 4B and 312 4B engines...........Good luck

Thanks Racer....looks like I'll be getting the thunderbird decals ....I like the "special" decals better but I want to keep it true to the motor. Not that originality is paramount since I'm probably stroking it and running a ported set of 113's on it....but close to original "looks" is what I'm going for.

Thanks again guys!!

Checked the online concours catalogs and I only see a listing for the "special" decals.

According to Mac's catalog what you want is a "DF70" Vlave cover decal for a '55 272 V8 - $10.95Smile

That part number is for the "Ford V8" decals. I'm looking for the "Thunderbird V8" decals. Since this motor is out of a '56 club sedan thunderbird edition.

I was thinking the "POWER KING" outfit might be fun.......292 block / 312 crank / .100 over pistons / Isky mixer / fuel injection under the air cleaner / blue bottle tucked a way.

Just a 130 HP farm truck don't you know......BigGrin

I like your kind of thinking....I'm actually have a "loose" plan for a 318 stroker kit, porting the set of 113 heads I have, a cam and probably one of Mummert's intakes. And yes EFI(carb style) has crossed my mind more than once. But I'll be staying away from the giggle gas. BigGrin
