I have a 56 Ford F-100, 292 with benstens adopter to AOD. Engine is mounted in front at stock mount location and rear of AOD Crossmember frame rail to frame rail. I am in the process of adding engine mounts to both sides of the engine block. I have ram horn exhaust, toyota steering conversion, Idid it steering column, and under the floor brake master cylinder. Its getting real busy under there on the drivers side and possibly my only option left for routing the exhaust is to be below the frame rail cross members which would put the bottom edge of the exhaust pipes the same level as the bottom of the running board brackets. In other words, the bottom of the exhaust system at its lowest point would be no lower than the bottom of the running board brackets. Does this sound too low?

If it will be the same as some other factory component, then I'd say it's not too low.



On my truck, the exhaust is the lowest but it is still high enough that it is not a problem. If you have at least about 7" below the exhaust, you'll probably be alright.



Make sure to design your side mounts so that there is enough room to get the pipe to the rams horns.

Thanks Charlie. It will be a little higher than the running board brackets and quite a bit higher than the front rail to rail cross member that held in the manual transmission bellhousing. I dont even know where to start on fabricating the motor mounts. Scottys hot rods makes a very nice mount but I dont know if it will allow enough clearance for the exhaust hooking to the ramhorn. Any suggestions on where to start for mocking up a stock Y engine mount that I can mount to the block and see what my options are to head for a side rail mount?

Well, I've not yet had to do it, but I'd get some rubber mounts, bolt them to the block, mount the rams horns and tack a pipe together, being conscious of the room required for the mounting brackets, and then build the brackets around all of that, ensuring that the pipe can be removed.



With all of the changes you have made, you may be able to use car manifolds or headers. That would make it much easier.

I have rams horns and some (but not all of the stuff you have. The high single outlet was pretty easy to bend around everything. I made a j pipe and a slip collar to the outlet. The j bends and starts back a few inches below the frame rail. Probably about the same level as your running board. I just used straps and fastened around the pipes with band collars for easy disassembly if necessary. no issues.



Only unpleasant thing is the driver side has a few more bends than passenger side. But love the rest. Wrapped the rams horns and just went old school with it.

I am doing something similar. 292, Rams Horns, Bentsen Adapter, E4OD, side engine mounts and rear E4OD mount under the tail-mounted parking brake unit.



I made my own mounts using square Cummins (Dodge) engine mounts. It appears I'll be putting a little bend in the exhaust pipe where it comes off the manifold and then I'll have to drop down under the frame a bit more than normal. I have a LOT more ground clearance than you do though. [F-600 with 9.00-20 tires w00t ]
