Truck Oil Pans

I need to switch over from a front sump car pan to a rear sump truck pan so my new motor will work in a 37 Ford Coupe chassis. I know some of you are putting Y's in these 30's Ford cars and wanted your opinion.

I have two truck oil pans, one is an early nice straight shallow pan with no baffle, the other is a banged-up and brazed pan that came out of a 59 heavy duty "Big Job" truck. The brazing looks okay, but I cant knock the big dents out unless I cut the baffle out (yes I coulld leave the dents in and just paint it up and use it, but I thiink that would really bother me). The 59 pan has a 3/4" deeper rear sump, but I don't know if they were designed to hold the same volume of oil as the early pan and/or if I need more volume for the blown stroker motor?

I guess another option would be to make a baffle for the shallower pan, but I'm not sure there is enough room for the filter screen assembly. So any opinions would be appreciated.

There's plenty of room for a baffle in the truck pan. Some actually came with a baffle.
I think the other is actually for a tbird.

I used a truck pan with a stock baffle and took it a step further with a gate. I have around 10k miles without a problem and no more pressure drop when coming to a stop.

I've used both but I have the shallow pan on the Uni, still bunps the axle. I make my own baffle and weld it in. No problem. Just be sure to keep it clear of the crankshaft. Ask me how I know. Rolleyes

See if this link to a past thread helps. Truck oil pans are significantly different from the Thunderbird pans although all are rear sump.

I was looking at Andy's 34 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=654839 He used a front sump pan, do you HAVE to have a rear sump, or do you WANT a rear sump. Also moroso makes a kit to deepen a pan and make baffels.
