Been working on my advance curve and ignition tuning. I installed the MrGasket springs and welded the mechanical advance slots to limit the total advance. Currently my initial advance is set to 12* and my total comes to around 36* at about 3000 rpm. I currently dont have my vacuum advance hooked up as its not working and a new one seems to cost a small fortune.

After setting everything up I took it for a spin but when I got back to my driveway I couldnt get up the driveway without it stalling. Tried so many times I killed the battery.

May be accelerator pump problem, if they dont get the initial squirt they need for take off they will stall.

Since you messed around with the timing and assuming you didn't have this problem before, first make sure nothing changed from your recalibrated settings during the test drive. I wouldn't expect your new curve to cause a problem like that, but maybe go back to the previous setting and see if it goes away. Make a diagram of your curve, rpm on the x axis and degrees of advance on the y axis. That may illustrate a problem at the low end of the curve.

You should be able to get it running and check the initial advance at low idle? The 12º should still be there I would think - unless the engine has now shifted to a lower idle speed. Increased advance leans the engine - the stalling may reflect that change.

The increased advance will have to be fed an increased amount of fuel to get the proper mixture back. It won't be gobs of fuel - but your carburetor may (probably) need to be re-tuned. Time for the vacuum guage if you've got one.

Points or electronic ignition? If using breaker points, then too wide a point gap can create the symptoms you describe.

I'm using the Accel Points Conversion. I think Greenbird may have it right. I think I'm running a little lean. I'm going to readjust the carb with the vacuum gauge then try it again.

Thanks
