OK 292 guys is there suppose to be a copper gasket under the jam nuts on both sides of pickup tube where it passes through the oil pan ?

OUTSIDE? I don't see a need to seal the nut against the pan if oil can leak past the threads. I would think you would want the gasket inside between the flange on the tube and the pan wall. Just my opinion.

John, can I chalk that one up to 'Old Timers Disease? Don't know what I was thinking, I've installed them dozens of times. Of course you are correct. That's why you're one of them Modulators, to catch dumb a$$es like me...

The taper usually sits up pretty hard on the inside , Personally I have one on the inside and outside, yet I dont think you would have much problems either way.
