Heplex pistons

Ever heard about Heplex Y-Block pistons?

A little bit lighter than original and there is some odd extra oil ring in skirt.

They look like flathead pistons to me. Are you sure they're for a Y?

I dont know. Every dimension is the same so it might be 8 pistons from Royal Enfield, Austin Healey or something but I doubt that.Smile

What I read, Hepolite/Heplex is old aftermarket piston manufacturer from England and maybe they made some Y pistons as well. Somebody British bike enthusiast might know better.

Oh. And those are 292 standard bore size.

hi, they could be HD truck pistons. they used a extra oil ring at the bottom. they are usually heavier though. check to see if they have a short compression distance, they usually do.

hi, wasn't thinking, they could be 4 cyl. tractor pistons, because of the weard slots in the skirts. what bore are they? they say standard so that might help with application. old TRW products catalogs listed all ford engines for specs. hope this helps.

I had a replacement set like that for a 1500cc Cortina GT. I think that might have been a British idea to put the extra ring below the wrist pin, maybe to control oil when a rebore was not done.

The oem Cortina pistons did not have that lower ring but the first set of non Ford replacements did have them. They might have come from some mail order house. In any case the lower ring was just barely within the bore at BDC. One day autocrossing at high RPM there was a brief engine rattle then it kept on running OK. When I got it home, I tapped the oil pan with a hammer and there was junk falling back. Pulled the pan and there was a broken ring and piston skirt. I took the other three out and replaced them with FoMoCo parts and all was ok again.

Considering all the good stuff available today for Y's I would not use them even in Finland!!

They have same comp high as '59 original.

Considering all the good stuff available today for Y's I would not use them even in Finland!!
