There is lots of information out there on the toyota power steering swap for 56 Ford F-100's. 1979-early 1984 4 x 4 Pick Up box is the correct swap. Im building up a an F-250 with duallies front and rear. I have an F-100 which has the power steering Toyota Swap. I'm thinking the F-250 is going to be a little hard to horse around with the stock Ford Steering. I cant find a lot of feedback on anyone who has done the Toyota Manual Swap. Lots of information on the power swap but so far nothing on the manual advantages. Im just wondering if its worth it. I would also like to know if using the stock steering column with the Toyota Manual Box will allow using the stock horn wire.

Darrel, when I installed the Toyota power steering box on my '56 M100 I was loaned a manual Toyota box to use for mocking up while I waited for a power box. Other than the power component they are identical in configuration. You will not be able to use the Ford horn wire without some modification. There is a kit available that will allow you to feed the horn wire (using a special set of contacts on the column and drilling a hole in the side of the steering shaft) up through the shaft to the horn button. I will see if I can find the link. I fabricated my own horn contacts using a pair of copper plates under the steering wheel.

I had heard there was a kit out there that was pretty high price but never seen it. I will have to consider getting ahold of you to find out more about your method. I could use a seprate horn button on the dash, but honestly, I would probably not remember where I put it. My first choice would be the stock horn and button on this truck. Its the closest to "stock" and its a push just to consider the Toyota swap, but I dont know if I want to drive the 250 flatbed using the stock manual steering.
