I found this text in an E-bay add and became interested in the statement that bronze guides are not recomended on Y block heads.......

Hmmm.... what is your experience??

Text from Ebay add:

This is a fixed price sale of a pair (2) ECZ-G cylinder heads. These heads are sound structurally, but will need machine shop work to be serviceable. As you may know, the ECZ-G heads were the high performance heads for the Y-Block Fords which were produced from 1954 through 1962, These heads will fit all of the Y-Blocks from the 239 ci to the 312 ci. They were not offered by Ford for the 239, as far as I know. Both of these heads will need to be resurfaced and most of the valve seats will need inserts. Some of the valve guides are cracked on the upper ends and should be replaced. I know most shops seem to want to use bronze guides, but on the Y-Blocks I recommend cast iron, thick walled guides. I have seen several instances of bronze guides coming loose and falling out. Here is a chance to get a pair of high performance cylinder heads at a very reasonable price which, even after extensive machine shop work will result in a savings. Thanks for looking.

I have been using pressed in bronze guides in my supercharged drag race engines for about 30 years, no problems with them coming loose in the head.

John: Could he be referring to bronze guide liners?  I asked here about them some time back, and as I recall (?) was told that there are two types & that one type was not entirely reliable. However, I've never seen or had any experience with either one..
