hi my 56 Lincoln tranny seems to be slipping when the tranny down shifts when you come to a stop but up shifting it works fine also makes a whining noise when you put it in drive .

I have never worked on that specific model trans but FWIW Sounds like a pump problem.Low pump pressure will produce those symptoms.
