Hi everybody,
I am new to the Y block and to the forum, I need some advice about crankshaft.
My friend bought a 1956 T-Bird with the 312 CID engine that needs a complete rebuild. He also needed the crankshaft and we checked around, but it looks very hard to find one. So my question is if it is possible to use the 292 crankshaft with bearing spacers, 292 is ready available rebuilt and we also find a good one here (I write from Italy so not many chance to find 312 parts at the junkyards here) which will save us a bunch of money due to shipping expense. Anybody knows if main bearing spacers are available for this engine, or knows where to get custom ones ?
Thanks
Marco

Hi, No the 292 crank will not work in the 312 block. The 312 has larger main bearings.

Also, the 292 crank has a shorter stroke, so the longer 292 connecting rods will also have to be used.  I have never been aware of any bearing spacers.
