I was wondering if someone could tell me which way the rod cap is suppose to be oriented. I have the 292. the manual says to put the numbers on the rod and cap on the same side but on some it looks like the rod has numbers on both sides so are the tangs suppose to be opposite or on the same side cause I am having major problems with my bearing clearances expecally on the sides of them. Any advice would be appreciated.

Forget about the numbers, the bearing tangs go on the same side. I don't think the rods were numbered from the factory and could have been numbered different depending on how many times the engine has been apart. I am assuming that you have had the big ends checked if you are doing a rebuild.

Not only are the tangs on the same side, but when installed in the engine the tangs should be opposite the camshaft.
