yuo are correct, the truch 1 will bolt to the front cover of truck and car (just tryed it,the 3 gaskets in my oh kit (2 are then same,3rd for early 54s) in my case the impelors ar different, tho cant see that 1 is better than the other. cant see much diference in front covers ,except  truck has a pad for high mount fan or??.

There are 2 basic types of water pump for Y's not counting something odd of early '54's.  Here is a side by side pic of both of them.   The older one is a pass car pump. The new one is a HD truck pump with a larger shaft.  It also has larger bearings and a stronger casting with gussets to support the bearings.  However it will bolt to any front cover.  I think that most light duty trucks had the pass car type pump not the HD one.

I agree you need to check your block numbers. Both of my 1956 272 blocks have the same pump with the larger shaft. The parts store (O'reilly auto parts I believe) pulled up the right part the first try. Same part number that is on my pump.

Try this site for the block numbers:

I think the smaller one is '54 only, but definitely an earlier pump.  Since that's what you removed, you might want to check the casting numbers on the block and head to determine what you have as many early parts do not interchange with the later stuff.  At this point, any Y block or combination of parts can be in your truck.
