All it needs is a dob of grease smeared all around the pilot hole. All you are trying to do is stop it from rusting. Not to much grease though as you may find it hard to bolt the flywheel on due to hydraulic pressure. Another good lube would be NeverSeez or copperKote.

Hello Y block experts, I'm about to install the newly rebuilt air-cooled Fordomatic into my 55 Fairlane. I read somewhere, I think it was in the Fordomatic shop manual, that the pilot hole in the crank needs lubrication before the converter and trans are installed. Can anyone tell me what sort of lube is needed for this?Any other installation tips would be welcome.
