I am in the process of installing a new gas tank in my '55 Fairlane. The car came to me without a tank so I have nothing to refer to. The new tank came with mounting straps and it is readily apparent how they attach at the front of the tank. However there appear to be no attachment points at the rear of the tank. The straps came with a pair of 3/8" carriage bolts but the Ford parts manual shows a pair of j bolts. The drawing does not show how or precisely where they are attached. Does anyone have this knowledge or a picture. Thanks.

You are correct about J bolts. The front of the strap goes over a hook on the floor pan. The rear has two J bolts that hook into the frame cross member at the rear of the car. I've added a link below to a member who sells the 56 manuals on disc. I have a set and they cover almost everything. One is illustrations and the other is by part number. Chuck

Thanks Chuck, I figured it out. The slots for the J bolts are above the cross member.
