What kind of sealant do I need to use on the head bolts that go through the water passage? I was thinking about just using black silicone adhesive. It is water proof and flexible will that work or do I need to use something else?

I checked that site but it does not mention anything about sealant.

Y blocks should not have any head bolt holes open to the water jacket.  Lube the bolt threads with engine oil and torque them.

JM's list of y-block-specific assembly tips is pretty complete, Ray.The only thing I would add would be to check the lengths of the pushrods to make sure that they're all the same and check the rockerarms to make sure that they're all either 1.43:1 or 1.54:1.For reference, see the following web address for the casting numbers for the FoMoCo rockers.  My understanding is that anything else used for identification numbers are aftermarket replacements and will be 1.43:1 ratio.  Installation of the rear cam plug is something to be careful about also.  Ted Eaton has a good article on this on his web site if you haven't seen it.
