I'm going with a 9" and new axles in my 55 Ford. I'm hoping to get some ideas about substituting something stronger than the "C" shaped bracket which is, I believe, riveted to the frame. At almost 60 years of age I believe an upgrade would be in order as well as new springs. I would welcome suggestions on springs as well.
Thanking you in advance
I'm Midwest Mike or I might now be Missouri Mike, or vice versa, I can't remember which but I do remember,
I'd rather be lucky then good.........but good ain't bad!!!

I replaced one on my '57 Bird many years back and just used grade 8 bolts. It has had many hard launches since then and no problem. Unless the rivets are loose or you have rust issues there may not be a problem.

When I put the 9" in my car I had the same thoughts so I added a few stitches of weld to them, after many a hard launches and gear banging I have not seen any problems. They must be stouter than they look, I have never heard of anybody ripping any off. I did add some traction aid by taking a heavy duty truck spring and making some hidden traction bars with them to prevent wheel hop.
