I was wondering if anyone can post some pictures of what a "posted" G head looks like compared to a non-posted one so that I can see the difference. Also are all 113 heads posted?? I've been told thay all are. I recently got some ported to the Max "G" heads and am trying to see if they are posted or not. Michael

Michael,
Posted G heads only came from Cleveland foundry (look for CF logo). Check date code between rocker support pads. 7(1957) 5(May) H(8th) and higher are posted.

Take a small flashlight, illuminate the water jacket thru one of the holes by the combustion chamber. Look at the Flat area that would be inside the circumfrence of the bore. If it's posted there will be a column from the deck in that area up to the top of the head. I have never heard of 113 or 471 heads without posts, but I've been wrong before!

If you have a small enough little finger you can reach inside one of the large water holes where the headgasket surface on the outermost cylinders and actually feel a small cast-in post above the combustion chamber. Look at a latter head and you will see or feel it so you know what to look for.

Daniel, Frank, and Pat, thanks for shedding some light on this, I sure appreciate it. I'll have to take a look at the "G"'s and see if they are posted. Frank I'm under the impression too that all 113's are posted but like you said you never know. What I'm planning on doing is putting together a motor for my 57 F100. I'd like to do a 312 but since I can't find a crank that either isn't $500.00 or one that doesn't have to be turned 60 under, I'll just put together a built up 292 with an overbore to about 304-306 cid. I've just been in the parts gathering stages now, but I've got pretty much everything accept a distibutor, thats why I've been asking about the MSD recently in some of the other posts. The motor isn't going to have a blower or anything like that, just a Blue Thunder intake so I don't really think the heads I have to posted as long as I don't go crazy on the compression which I'd like to keep around 9:5 to one to use pump gas. thanks agin, Michael

All 113 heads are posted. Here’s the link to pics on a previous thread on how to identify a posted head. http://www.y-blocksforever.com/forums/Topic6711-3-1.aspx
