Yes,there is a drain plug on the converter. In fact there are 2,that are 180 degrees apart.Either will drain the converter.

Thats interesting. Is it safe(or OK) to go from what I assume is "F" type in there now(real deep red color) to dextron 3?If I drain it there will still be residue in the trans.I believe this will mix OK but not 100% sure.Trans works fine now but has been neglected for years which is why I am doing the trans filter and fluid. When I drained the rear axle I wouldnt be surprised if it was the oil put in at the factory!Talk about thick and strong smell!Any feedback appreciated.Mark

All the TBird restorers recommend Dexron III as the preferred replacement.

I have a question similar to this one.I am going to drain and replace the filter on my 56 with Fordomatic.Should I refill with F or use Dextron 2.Is there a drain plug on converter?I am assuming there is.Any other input appreciated.Mark

Is there a consensus on what fluid should be used in a 55 FordoMatic?I've been using type F,but have just finished installing new gaskets and seals and I seem to recall some discussion on here about the best oil to use.F is getting hard to find.
