hello from new zealand, i have a p code 56 country sedan

would like to know if non standard sender will work with original temp guage

original type expensive to purchase and import , may not fix problem

Erratic readings on temp,is maybe bad ground in dash unit,or near no water in motor.w00t

If it is bad,other sender may work? I don't think trying one can hert,if resitens is rite the reading will be ok.Cool

If your sender IS bad an aftermarket one would do just as well as original. It doesnt know what kind of car its in (LOL). you may have to get an adapter. original unit is $55.95 US. But as "Bat "said may be a rusty connection, bad wire , or loose. If you need a unit let me know I can get you an aftermarket one and ship it for only shipping costs. Welcome to Y-Block Mate

Only if the aftermarket sender has the same resistance will it work. Off hand, it probably won't unless you are lucky. I would check all the electrical connections, try a temporary ground on the gauge and check to see if you used tape in sealing the threads on the sending unit, as this may be screwing up your ground. The guage itself may be going bad, If you can find another stock gauge somewhere that you know is good you can check it this way.



Otherwise, you may have to bite the bullet and get a new stock one.

Jetlag,

       you should be able to tell if the sender is working by hooking it to an ohm meter and heating it up.  (pan of water on the stove ) If you find that to be the problem, some one on this site will have a working , used sender to send to you for no more than the aftermarket piece. You do need to be sure the dash is grounded. Sender is grounded to the block, block through the ground strap, if you've wrapped the sender with Nylon tape or used a plumbers sealant, the sender won't ground. Make sure the power to the instrument itself is good, and not interrupted.

Nope, gauge does not need to be grounded. Current flows though the gauge to sending unit.
