I found a 55 Merc parts car that has a three speed overdrive trans.I would like to know if its a T85 before I buy it,sitting down in the dirt to far to get under it.If anyone knows which od the 55 mers had I would appreciate your response    Carl

Went digging in the Hollander Interchange books I have that cover '54 - '66, Carl.
The '55 and '56 Mercs used the same T-85s with R-11 overdrive units.
'55 Mercs were 6 volt, so I guess the overdrive relay and governor is different from that used on the 12 volt '56 Mercs.

Yup, my '55 Monte has the original trans and it is definitely a T85 w/R11 OD.
