Howdy,
I'm lookin for the BEST place ta get th MOST COMPREHENSIVE shop manual for my 55 Crown Vic. Seen a few on line but not sure just how good they are. Im not really a mechanic (carpenter by trade) and a good manual will help loads. Im handy with a wrench as long as i have good direction. Any help with this would be GREATLY appreciated!

The Ford manuals are usually quite good. You can find originals, reprints, and DVD versions.

I bought a reprint of the original factory manual for my 56 after I bought it. It is extremely helpful sometimes very presice like setting trans pressure which needs special tooling.
I would also purchase a book with all the expanded views. It covers quite a few years but is fantastic for seeing how everything fits. Includes original part #'s too if you can figure them out...Good Luck.

Rowen, Sorry no. Fast 56 Fords at Bonneville belong to Karol Miller. I used our 32 American Austin bodied hi boy roadster powered by a 1952 12 port GMC 6 on 75% nitro.. Good luck with your Crown. Great folks and info on this site....JD

try finding a 1956 motors repair manual,I have one,they cover all aspects,engine transmitions auto and standerd,overdrives as well.have specs on .all engines. i also have later ford manuals that are very good,but find going to the motors more basic. while wireing my instalation of duraspark 2 in my 57ranchero the motores wireing far easeyer than ford(refering to 1978 ford manual versus 1978 motors)as dura spark 2 was not availtillthatera.

The FSM is a great reference but it doe leave a lot out. A parts book is a necessary addition.

Rowan: go to the classifieds here, scroll down to manuals on C.D. etc by Daniel Jessup, a member here. May be the way to go & priced very reasonably.
..One of the problems that shows up with factory manuals is, that they are intended for pro mechanics & sometimes important detail are left out or the methods shown aren't reasonable for home mechanics, bear that in mind..
