You sure they have roller lifters for a Y? I imagine you can talk to them about the cam, too. Answer all there questions honestly and you'll get a cam that is perfect.

The ½” lifter diameter on the Y family of engines makes it difficult to retrofit those engines for roller camshafts. In the Y’s heyday, there were a few sets available and used but even then, those sets were rare. While Ford did make a small number of blocks for the 7/8” diameter lifters, those are also extremely rare. The run of the mill Y blocks with the ½” diameter lifters simply do not have enough lifter boss material in the valley to support enlarging those bores to the larger lifter bores for which good quality roller lifters are available.

But do they actually make roller lifters for a Y or was that statement a mistake? People may be interested, if they do actually produce a roller lifter that works well.

Aren't the lifter bores offset as so the lifter turns of each actuation?
Has anyone tried cam profiles that worked in similar profile as a roller type? And has anyone heard of a universal pneumatic spring to lighten the valve spring and help hold the lifter to the cam etc.

And has anyone heard of a universal pneumatic spring to lighten the valve spring and help hold the lifter to the cam etc. Lifters rotate because of the combination of taper in the lobes and the 50” or 52” radius ground into the lifter faces. Most roller cam profiles if ground with a taper on the lobes so that flat tappet lifters can be used are much too aggressive on the opening and closing ramps for flat tappet lifters to last very long. I’m personally not familiar with pneumatic springs for the lifters themselves. I am familiar with the rev kits that use springs to hold the roller lifters in place though.
