Machine shop called today and the 40 over pistons I have for the rebuild are kind of junk. Too much variation in the casting thickness. Maybe overseas repop?.

Anyway I need a set of new 40 over 272 pistons. Would consider racing type pistons if they are in good shape. I will be running this engine with a McCullouch supercharger so thicker tops and flat tops desired.

If anyone knows a modern piston that fits this size give me a part number or all specifics. The machine shop is ready to rock and roll. Chuck in NH

Hi Chuck,

Egge Machine co. has .040 over 272 pistons for around $260. p/n:L2000-040. I believe they make their own stuff right here in the good old USA.

Thanks Mark.

I just called them and they do have a set for $280. I'm looking a better price. Chuck in NH

Try Verne Schumann.  I purchased a set of +040 272 pistons from him last year.  That particular set was manufactured by Badger and finished weighing in at 704 grams each with the pin after match balancing.  Total variance in the new set was 2 grams before balancing.  The original piston weight for the 272 I was rebuilding was 693 grams (with pin) so the new piston weight was in line with this when taking the oversize into account.
