The older Duraspark II set-ups use an AC signal output from the trigger in the distributor - but it is only about one volt and sine wave form - it is 8 (or 6) per revolution based on the reluctor used. Routing it through a diode would create a binary (1) and (0) with each wave. The AC generator scheme makes its own voltage which avoids having to send it power - but the low voltage might be below the threshold you need.  Locking the advance wouldn't be any big deal though.

I think Crane xr-i generates square wave and installs in Y dizzy. Worked with Megasquirt over 7000 RPM in 8.723s pull.

y dizy 4.5in frome base end, to end ond of dist shaft ,302 289 3.5 351w 3.5 351w has larger shaft and oil pump drive part of dizy that goes into block i.5 in,earley ys no o ring,later have o ring and several thousmaler(don't stick) i use the reluctor shaft and reluctor from302 or 351w to convert to ford dura spark,as well use there pickup,or triger. hope this helps

Grab a TFI distributor from the junk yard and compare them. If it fit's the block in the same way, then it should only be a matter of having a shaft made or finding one longer enough to modify and / or fitting a Y-Block gear. If it doesn't fit the block the same, then the best bet is probably to try and modify a Motorcraft distributor for TFI internals.

They supply a harness for 80's style ignitions Ford and GM which are run by ECU The MSD runs an induction pickup and from what I can see the Terminator requires a square wave signal. I know my MSD can be locked but I'm not to sure how to wire it in? Apparently the GM module can be remotely wired in yet I'm not to sure how and if possible in my situation. If it's possible I'd like to know how?

I've been told by a company that builds distributors that a TFI distributor will not work. However, I'm sure that's just the short answer. I haven't compared the two myself, but anything can be done with enough determination and money. I thought the terminator can work with any locked out electronic distributor. Is that not the case? Or does TFI offer some other benefit over a standard electronic distributor?

I have an MSD at present which is great, though I also am running a Holley Terminator EFI which will plug straight into the Windsor TFI distributor. And obviously allows for greater timing adjustments. Visually from images the y block looks longer in the shaft than the Windsor. I guess I'll visit a local wrecker and measure one up, just thought to ask as someone may have tried it for some reason or another.

If you mean an actual windsor distributor, it will not fit. If you're asking what is the difference between the Motorcraft and Autolite Y-Block distributors, aside from the fact that the whole units do interchange, little swaps between them. I think in some cases tune up parts are the same, but the bodies, and advance mechanisms are totally different. From a tuning standpoint, the Motorcraft is the one you want because the internals are the same as a windsor, and other Ford, Motorcraft distributors. So it's easy to find parts to change the advance curve.

Hi guys I'm curious of the difference between the two dizzy's, where they slide into the block, the cam gears and the oil pump drive if being the same. is it possible to fit into the Yblock with some modification or not.
