Got it painted and it came out looking real good, weather its the right shade or not I'll have to see,it came out looking like I painted it out of a spray gun with enamal paint,I'll try to post a picture of it. I'm also in need of a correct distributer for it also,it came with the Loadamatic and thats not quite correct,my NAPA guy found the later ones with the weights and vacume but I'd like to know what Ford # was used for the 57 dist,I'm running a Eldebrock 4 barrel on this.

Thanks for the help gents. I got a hold of my rep for the KBS paint and he claims that what they have is the real deal, I'll use it and see what happens, what I sprayed so far looks good as far as gloss and finish, a lot better finish than Napa's engine paint,it looks like its an enamal out of a spray gun, which is what they claim their engine paints are.

Ford" Rangoon Red used through the 60's on trucks is a very attractive red/orange that can be mixed in single stage urethanes and used on Y-Blocks. It is very correct looking, more on the red side than orange and looks like what ford intended. By using a quality catalyzed paint you eliminate the issues with solvents rewetting and staining by spray can paints and the finish will look more professional and last.

I don't know that we dated this engine, its not in a car, someone planted it in a C600 cab forward and used some truck parts to make fit,so I'm not real worried about year color if there is something like that, I just don't want something too orange to be totally incorrect. Its still running the T pot dist and that doesn't work with the 4 barrel Eldebrock carb so I'm also looking for the later dist to replace it with. Thankyou

It would appear that not all ‘Ford Red’ engine enamel is the same shade. The red for the ’55 and ’56 Ford car engines has a hint of orange in it and that makes it a hard match with some of the paints that are available at the local parts stores. While the Aervoe and Dupli-Color paints would appear to be too red, the VHT Ford Red (part #SP152) comes reasonably close without going to a specialty paint supplier like Bill Hirsch to get the exact correct shade.

If there is a search function on this website I didn't see it so I'll ask the question. On a 312 I had built I orginally sent a can of Napa's Ford red to the machine shop to squirt on it, it is the cermic type paint, it looks red theres no question about that, I ended up getting a couple cans of KBS Ford red and I hate to say it but it looks like scruby orange, I like the KBS paint it has a higher gloss and seems to be more durable that others but it leans toward orange, I don't know what color would be correct, I would guess the darker color but I wanted a better opinion than mine.
Thanks.
