Is it necessary to have a spacer plate? I just realized I don't have one for my engine swap. I'm running a manual transmission if that makes a difference.

I guess I wasn't that clear in my description. I'm talking about the sheet metal plate that goes between the block and trans. I'm not sure what it's function is.

Do you mean the plate that usually goes between the bell housing and the block like 289/302? YBlocks did not use one.

Yes that's it. We pulled the 6 cyl out today and it had one and got me thinking on whether or not I needed one.

The 6 cylinders used one but the Y blocks don't. The 6 cylinders have a very narrow block that would leave an opening on the side and expose the flywheel/clutch, hence the plate..
