hi there

i'm sure you fellas can answer these two questions.

i've had the carb refurbished and it came back with an electric choke which i'm happy with but what do i do with the port which connected to the heat riser. do i block it off or connect it to that tube which leads to inside the air filter?

whats bugging me is that i believe theres a vacuum passage in the carb that draws air from the heat riser thro the choke housing and if i just block it off i may upset the calibration.

question 2 just inboard of the primary throttle lever i've got 2nd lever with an adjusting screw which bears on the throttle lever. does this in some way connect to the auto transmission and how do i set that screw?

i'm new to motoring and my Chilton auto repair manual does not show that 2nd lever

thanks very much

stuey

SmileSmileHello I would just block the choke port off all the vaccume from that port does is to move a small piston inside the choke housing which opened the choke.

SmileAs for your second question that second lever with the adjusting screw is for the kick down for the transmission. When you want to pass some one you push the throttle to the flor and the linkage puts the automatic transmission in to a lower gear for quicker pickup then when you let up it returns in to high gear but I am not sure how to adjust that one it has been a while since i did that.

There is a procedure to setting the rod - check a Motors manual, factory manual or such for the procedure. Check the transmission section for the procedure if its not in the general section. If you tell me the year, I can look it up.

thanks for the advice

i notice that the carter afb pipes the choke housing to the air cleaner so i think i'll try both and see what happens

re the throttle rod, the truck came with a Fordo which was operated from a homemade linkage mounted at the rear of the inlet manifold with no direct conection to the carb. i've since fitted a c4 and i assumed the throttle lever at the transmission did the same job. would i be right if i ran a link from the carb to a bell crank at the rear of the inlet manifold and on to the transmission. then the adjusting screw would give some delay , if backed off, before the trans rod moved

or is that screw there to allow for idle screw adjustment and the two levers should move simultaneously

thanks a lot
