Can anyone I.D. this : B/W 4 speed ?   On passanger side of trans-- Case #D7D8-7006 or 08-A-A, tailshaft: #D7D8-7A_ _ (these 2 digits blurred) o-AA also has a piece on bottem of tailshaft like a dorsel fin with 3 evenly spaced holes. There's a tag also on case: UG-BP   GH26  D7DR-AA-1837. Anybody decipher this and tell me what it is and possible gear ratio--- Is this the B/W 4-speed offered in "57"? It seems to have a close 1st to 2nd then a wider 3rd that you can drive around town without going to 4th until about 45 or 50 mph. Thanks for any help on this!  Skip

The D7 I believe stands for 1977 and for performance they just don't cut it. The distance between 2nd and 3rd is a stretch and 4th is real close to 3rd which for me is not very much for an overdrive that it represents. For non performance it should be ok, the gears are not as beefy as the real toploaders from the 60s. But hear again as for a beat arounder it should be fine. I'm assuming this is a top loader from the 70s were discussing.

Could be out of a Granada if this is the overdrive 4 th gear. I had a 77 Granada with the three speed plus overdrive behind the big six of that year.

Are you sure it's a Borg Warner? The overdrives from the Granadas were Ford top loaders. There is an access cover on the top of the transmission that does not exist on a BW t10.

Frank,  It's not a top loader with access plate on top but with access on drivers side -side cover like a B/W T-10 where shifter linkage connects, shift pattern is standard "H" with reverse over and up by 1st if that helps. Also where the trans bolts to bell housing has double bolt holes at ears for different applications I assume that's what their for?  SKIP

The  p/n is throwing me off. I had no idea Ford was still using the B/W that late. I thought that all Ford four speeds were Ford T&C or toploaders in the 70's, and that's a 70's part number. All you can do is pull a side cover and count teeth or pull the tranny and count the rotation in each gear.

As an FYI, Ford did not offer a four speed as an option until 1962 and those particular Borg Warners were the side cover design.
