I had purchased the kit from Wilwood and was wondering if anyone was having the same problem with excessive disc run out. I checked the run out before the car was driven. .015" on one, .007 on the other. I called them and they sent return shipping labels. I was assured that the replacements would be within .003" run out. Eight days later I got a call from them saying that the discs were within spec....blew my mind! The cat comes up with "something wrong with your spindles" pure B.S.!  Asks me if I want them back! I called the B.S.er the next day, now he tells me that they WERE bad and they would send replacements. Fifteen days later the replacements arrive, I put them on my car and check the run out; .017" on one, .011" on the other!!! UNREAL! I called and told them that I wanted a refund on the discs....sent labels....three weeks later I got a check. In the meantime I bought a pair of Raybestos discs (1969 Mustang) and USA made Timken bearings (Wilwood supplied Chinese) from Rockauto. These discs had .003" run out each.
The bottom line; The car stops OK. I don't like the way the pads only partially contact the disc surface....I would not recommend this Wilwood setup to a friend. I would go with something that uses OEM off-the shelf calipers and pads.

You don't have to run a booster with disc brakes.  I have a non assisted disc / drum and so far it has stopped me every time I've needed it.  Not much force required either and I'm 130lbs after a big meal, so not much force available to begin with.

Running a booster with a 7/8" master cylinder should stop real easily.  That is smaller than most manual brake cylinders, and vacuum assisted on top of that.  If that doesn't stop reasonably well, then that indicates to me that there is some other problem.

I'm using stock drum brakes and a dual master cylinder on my 56 and it stops straight and true. Of course not like a modern car. I would suspect you have another problem in your brakes. Are the adjustments where they need to be and how much pedal travel do you have before the brakes come on?

re 57 i have a 7in booster with 7/8 master cyl, the brakes ar still poor,so converting to discks would be a problem as no room for larger booster, without mager mods. i also am open to help as love my ranchero until stoping it becomes scarey

Wilwood does not list for a 1957 Ford Fairlane series. Why?  The only reason I can think of, is that the wheelbase is longer, which could effect brake lines. And I don't see anything in the initial listing re a Master Cylinder setup. With standard exhaust manifolds, apparently some Master cylinders won't fit. So far I've never run across a "complete"  front disc conversion. Comments?
