I am with Aussiebil, did you forget the retainer plates; or like other people have asked, and they are very knowledgeable people, are you using a split retainer?

I did the rear bearing in my 57 last week, plus brakes, good thing i did the brakes, found the front bearing were bad too. I had the rear bearing pressed by a local shop , cost me $25 plus the cost of the bearing.

Look for bearings made in the USA for durability. The China garbage won't last very long, been there done that by accident by letting someone else do it and 20,000 miles later had to do it again.

I think SKF, but these days I'm not sure.

Koyo bought all the Timkin tooling in 2011. Bearings still come in a Timkin box but most are marked Koyo or made in China on the bearing. It SUCKS.

“Made in the USA” is a traditional mark and label used by many bearing manufacturers. This statement however can be misleading. In today’s highly competitive marketplace many manufacturers seek international off-shore sources for raw materials and components (such as balls, rollers, cages and rings). As a result many of the “Made in the USA” bearings are finished and assembled in the United States but contain components and materials that have been produced off shore."

SKF manufactures in Mexico and Japan. I've used them several times and have no complaints. Like with anything else mechanical, good maintenance is the key to a long and happy life. 

Cant see why the panic over all this, the bearing companys are not going to sell bearings that are inferior quality and going to fail in the miles our cars do today, regardless of 1 long trip here n there.
