Howdy,
It may be a bad vibrator. Those usually don't fail. It's more likely a shorted or severely leaky filter capacitor or a shorted selenium rectifier in the power supply . Those old filter caps dry out and usually cannot be used. If you're handy with a soldering iron and you have a schematic, you can buy new filter caps from these guys :
Antique Electronic Supply and probably fix it. If you're not, then you may have to take it to someone and have them check it out. That last link I gave you will also have all the tubes, mechanical vibrators and solid state vibrators for that radio.
By the way, tubes don't fail all that often too. I have equipment that has original tubes in that are 50+ years old!
Tubes are just not very expensive any more. (unless you're looking for high power RF or audio tubes)
