I have a set of Offenhauser main stud supports. They have a steel bar held down by extended bolts with a spacer to the main caps. I assume they will torque to the stock specs. The question is they have a small bolt and lock bolt at the center that tightens against the middle of the main cap. Does anyone know what the torque specks are for these? They add support to the middle top of the mains. Thanks, Chuck in NH

If you have no experience with these how about a suggestion for the torque on the 5/16" bolt that tightens against the top of the cap? Chuck in NH

I would not torque those center bolts at all.I believe you just want them to touch the main cap,if you torque them you will distort the cap.I have never used them but I did use a bearing cap girdle on an 8.8 Ford rear and the instructions for them were to just make contact and set the lock nut so they would not loosen. Thanks, That sounds reasonable to me. They are just a little added support to the center of the caps. Anyone else? Chuck in NH

The general recommended torque for the 5/16X18 bolts is 12-15 lbs. But I tend to agree that in this particular case, preloading the bolts against the caps with anything more than a simple contact may not be desirable. I’ve done the main cap support thing in the past and simply machined the caps flat on the top so the steel straps would set squarely on top of the main cap supports. The mentality behind this is similar to what’s being done on the small block Fords but in that scenario, the main support is a much larger unit with all the main caps involved being tied together with a single support instead of individual supports as is in your case.

Those look similar to the ones sold by Speedway for Flatheads… Part #560-3407. Maybe they can give you some info?
