Well heres my question. I'm building a 292 bored to a 301, I'm running an Isky RPM-300 cam, rebuilt "G" heads. I was curious if anyone thinks it would be okay to reuse the stock head bolts. I am leaning towards getting the ARP's from Mummert, but just wanted some opinions. Thanks in advance.w00t

Replace the head bolts.  Whether they are stock replacements or ARP does not matter.  It's cheap insurance.

Yeah, I went with ARP studs, so now I'm over insured.

Glad to see you made the call to replace the bolts.  The original head bolts were notorius for stretching.  The use of a known good set of grade eight bolts or the ARP pieces is always recommended.

I used the old origional head bolts when i put my engine back together, big mistake!! when i filled it with coolent i had a head gasket leak before it had any pressure on the system.the head bolts had aparently streached and had bottomed out on the threads before the heads were torqued down.i replaced the old bolts with grade 8 on Ted Eaton and Gary Burnett suggestion, proplem solved.no leaks,no drips,no errors   Carl Lynn    Ohio
