Hey there, in every other forum I'm known as the exhaustoholic..lol It's weird to me BC on eery other forum everyone hates and disses glasspacks, which always pisses me off... I'm used to on mustangs runnin 2 1/4" duals and runnin' 3" on my hemi I noticed some people said runnin 2" true duals on here is bad???? I didn't know they still made 1 7/8" mufflers..lol On my stock system i was planning on running red's 2" headers, to 2" mr.gasket cable exhaust cutouts, to a set of smithys or thrush glasspacks(which do ya'll prefer?), to a pair of bumperettes out the back... Does this sound ok? should i stick with the stock manifolds? ALL OPINIONS GREATLY APPRECIATED!!! AND PLEEEEZE FEEL FREE TO POST SOUND CLIPS....

I was reluctant to buy them at first but I really like them now. 2 cents of mineso how loud are they..guess they don't have to be too loud bc i'm gonna put cut-outs b4 them so.... Like someone who doesn't like drone and really loud cars could stand being in it with 22's?

I think the reason people diss glass packs is that most flow data shows they don't flow as well as Flowmasters or Dynomax. When I was thinking about it I looked at the flow numbers for various mufflers and found the baffle type mufflers flowed better. Some glass pack blanks have the same dia internal pipe and have larger or smaller nipples on each end for different applications. In addition to the internal pipe being small, the perforation for the glass is punched into the pipe giving a very rough flow path hindering flow even more. That said do what you like, it is your car! And remember that this only becomes interesting if you are racing against an otherwise equal car. It is unlikely that part throttle operation would be hurt and that is most of the time.

I'd personally use 2 1/2" collectors to at least 2 1/4" pipes, but you'll have to bend them. Smitties sound great, but don't really make as much power as the newer chamber or Turbo style mufflers. However, as a buddy of mine says, It's your car, whatever YOU want is right.

man, that 59 sounds great! I had a 54 ford ragtop in high school[ about 1970] that had dual straight pipes.sure reminded me of it when you got on it.I used to wind that 272 in second gear to about 75 or so and then backoff just to hear her roar, wow was that a sweet sound! nice 59,had a 4x4 like that once.

my 272 has a 2" system with a standard muffler im the envy of a fair few young guys who spent a fortune on their exhaust's & my 49 year old ute sounds better i also think a y-block under decceleration from 60-70mph is the most awsome sound you can hear.

The factory duals for the ’55 Fords passenger cars were 1 ¾” but the ‘P’ code cars received the 2” exhaust for the police cars. This 2” exhaust system use to be available from Walker as a bolt in replacement and that system is under my ’55 Customline now. Larger than this is typically better in a performance application but I have seen instances where the backpressure was reduced so much that the fuel economy suffered thus necessitating the system being resized to a more reasonable exhaust pipe size in which to restore the lost fuel economy.

I used 22" smittys because of the space under my bird. That size gave me some room to get it installed properly. All I can say is it sounds great. Smittys are 2" on both ends so it was easy to fit to my pipes. It is a good muffler. only about 25.00 each
