When running electronics you can open up the plug gap to .045 or so but when using original points setup it would be too much of a strain on the original ignition system to go over the factory specs. So my vote is for the electronics, it helps in burning the fuel more efficiently thus increasing power and gas mileage.

I used the Pertronix II and their hot coil on my 368. I opened the gap to .045 and it runs better than it ever did. The unburned gas smell is gone and the soot at the tail pipe is almost non-existent now.

gapping to .035" should do the trick with most ignition systems,jim from az

What should i det the gap of teh plugs to.. got the autolite 46s.... Was told this may be a prob in not gettin' the car turned over?
