Hello All, I have new door weatherstrips from Carpenter for my 56 Fairlane 4-door.There are instructions and tips with them like tape in place temporarily for fit and glue 12-18 inchs at a time.Put glue on doors not on weatherstrips.Anybody who has some tricks or tips they would  like to pass on would be appreciated.I would like to do a neat job and keep the excess glue not showing on doors. What can be used to clean up 3M glue? Thanks Mark

I just did my weatherstrips and I also used 3m glue You can get it in either black or yelo. So one or the other might show up less on the color of your car? I chose black/black car/can't see it if I get sloppy. You also I think need to put it on both surfaces-but not a tremendous amount. use those disposable vinyl gloves. It's not as hard as you might think.

Almost forgot, but seems like I used mineral spirits to get off the excess or grease and wax remover for painting prep. You can use laquer thinner if you are careful-but if left on to wet it will cut the paint.

I put weatherstrips on the doors of my TBird. First, clean the rubber pieces with alcohol or something to get all the parting dust off them and any possible oil.

I used the 3M black (much better than the yellow as far as looks go - you don't have to be as careful).

Clean the door surface with soap and water as solvents may harm the paint.

Do not pull on the weatherstrip as you are gluing. If you do there is the possibility of over stretching and you will have excess weatherstrip when you get to the end. Do a foot to 18 inches at a time as discussed earlier. Both on the door and the weatherstrip. It kind of a b***h going around the front of the door if the door is hung because it is tight, but go slow and cut the 12-18 inches to about six to nine inches for more control. If you can not get the 3M tube in the front part of the door, use a stick or thin screwdriver to apply the 3M. You can use a thin screwdriver to press the weatherstrip to the front of the door if you cannot get your fingers in there.

You do not need a lot of the 3M on the surfaces. You can spread it with your finger, just keep some lacquer thinner around to clean your finger before pressing the weatherstrip to the metal.

Best thing to get 3M glue off your fingers: get hold of wife's nail polish remover.
