Assuming he means for a generator.

There is a solid state replacement for electromechanical generator regulators from Clover Systems. They look so well made, I want one, even though I don't need one. http://cloversystems.com/products/legacy-products/dynamo-regulator/

You could also use a Bosch solid state regulator for a 1970s VW, they had 12 volt generators too.

Generator. When I clicked on details and pricing never could find pricing. Mounting screw holes are a little different but I am thinking I might be able to modify it to moung on my existing regularor base. The unit itself is small enough to fit under the stock cover. Curious as to pricing. Just paid $50 at my local parts store for a stock type.

It does appear the manufacturer has removed pricing and ordering information from the webpage.

Most of what I've been able to find in the way of information on mechanical voltage regulators says to avoid modern manufacture or reproductions. If it were me I would take the $50 unit back for a refund. NOS or even good used are better made, with better materials. NORS service replacements are also superior to what's offered today.

Since demand today is almost nonexistent the prices are reasonable if you search around. When operating obsolete systems like DC Generators there are certain preventive maintenance checks and services that need to be performed now and then, no way around this. Alternators replaced generators for some very good reasons. Use a good analog voltmeter to make voltage checks, keep an eye on the brushes and keep the regulator relay points clean. A spoon or riffler file is designed for this. It is also important that there are good solid grounds (Earth) and wiring connections are clean and tight.
