hi ,me back again , fully rebuilt my 8ba ,from new , all tolerance were checked etc , was very hard to turn over from new , had to kick starter it on 12 volts to get it fire up, ran it for a few hours , THEN decided to give it a few flight revs , up to around 1500 and then all of a sudden i stopped ,let it cool down for around a30 minute break ,it started again , with no rattles or knocks , can any tell me what happened in it doing this crazy thing , still runs fine , still very tight motor NEED HELP ON THIS ONE PLEASE CHEERS WELSHY Without a tear down, it’s going to be difficult to determine exactly what took place. If the engine is running okay now, you’ve got the option of continue to run it and just cross your fingers that whatever caused the engine to be tight to begin with is not continuing to wear upon itself. Worse case scenario is that the engine has a problem and continuing to run the engine will eventually manifest itself into a much larger problem. What year Flattie? You don’t give much information on what was actually done on the engine. Fully reconditioned? That means everything was machined and checked. An emphasis on the ‘checked’. What kind of clearances on the bores and bearings? Was the crankshaft tight before installing the rods and pistons? If so, that should have been addressed before going any further with the assembly. Rear rope rear main seals can add greatly to the crankshafts turning resistance during assembly and that could potentially be all that you are experiencing. Ring end gaps? Were they checked? Piston to wall clearances? Were they checked or was the block simply bored based on the assumed oversize of the pistons? What kind of cylinder wall finish? Lots of reasons here for why an engine may be ‘tight’.

Did this engine have the "95%" oil filter modification? If so, the remote filter base could be plumbed backward.
