I appreciate the info guys.My brother is not a kid,he's 55 and just wanted to get a newer pickup.by the way.my pickup is a 92 ford extended cab 4x4 150 that I use for hunting & fishing and gets worked pretty hard.it's a 5.4 with 195,000 miles.never did much to it but the usuall tuneup, brakes tires etc.still doesn't use oil & runs great.I bought it at 95,000.I firmly believe that Ford really knows how to make a great pickup.

I bought a new 98 F-150 with the 5.4 and put 113K miles on it. It was a great truck. We bought a 27' travel trailer and I decided to buy a new truck to tow it. They had great rebates and I could still get a reasonable trade in. I looked at F-150's and F-250's. I ended up buying an 06 F-250 with the new 5.4 3 Valve 300 HP engine. My trucks have all been 2WD with limited slip diff. The F-150's are a little nicer to drive in town and proabably a little lighter and quicker. If I had to do it over, I may have bought an 06 F-150. I also preferred the looks of the Super Duty. TIP FOR MOD ENGINE OWNERS..use a Motorcraft filter or one with an anti drainback valve. I think the reason some people experience the noise on start-up is because the valve train lube runs out without the anti drainback valve. Starting in 99 Ford added PI, Performance Improved heads to the mod motors and are an improvement over previous heads. FWIW, Ford strictly calls for the use of 5W20 in their new engines. Mobil 1 just came out with a Ford formulated 5W20 and I switched from Motorcraft blended 5W20 to Mobil 1. I also think it's important to leave the factory oil in a new truck till it's time for the first change. I use to drain it out after a few hundred miles and change to Mobil 1. It took my 98 a long long time to break in. I believe thay have break in additives in the oil from the factory.
