Has anyone tried the Ford Racing Duraspark cap and rotor kit on a stock 57 distributor with a Blue Thunder intake?  Jerry Christenson mentioned that there might be interference with the back casting of the intake manifold.  I don't mind grinding a little aluminum away, but, hopefully I won't have to.

Thanks................

Yes, I did have minor interference issues on my App, but as I don't use the FORD MOTORCRAFT CAP you are referring to anymore I don't remember what I did to get around it!

Seems like one of the spring hold down clips touched the manifold at certain advance settings so I had to lift the dist and reset it, was all.

BTW I just use a stock cap now and don't have any arcing problems as yet, We'll see with the new HP and on day to day use.

Thanks Alan.............

I had the same problem with the Mallory dual point I was using before.  I did what you did and just re-positioned the distributor.  If that is my only problem, I think I am in good shape.  I will let you know how it goes and perhaps another reader will benefit.

Thanks again............

I also had clearance problems with the MSD #8383 to the rear of the Blue Thunder manifold, so grind on the billet distributor housing or the manifold, went with the manifold. After a couple of passes with the grinder the dist. now rotates in both directions freely insted of sticking!  KID

Thanks guys for the responses.  I answered the question by installing the larger cap and it worked with only minor modifications.  I had to grind off a small amount of the conversion bosses that hold the spring clips for the cap.  If you do this, be careful not to grind off too much and loose the retaining capability of the spring clips.  We did three chassis dyno pulls yesterday to determine the optimum timing and the distributor turned just fine.

Thanks again...................
