If it's a 56 Fordo, it probably is that small plate on the bottom, maybe some thing like 4 x6 inches held on by two screws.  The larger plate above, i believe, first came with the C-4 and C-6 (unless it came with the water cooled Fordo's?? or the 59 and up Fordo's??).

Jarhead (10/5/2019)
I'm working on cleaning and painting the underside of my 1956 sunliner when I discovered some kind of plate missing off the bottom of the bell housing. It seems to have been held on by a screw on one side but I'm not sure what held the other side on. A few mechanics and speed shops have worked on this engine and trans, but no one ever mentioned it. I can look in and see the flywheel and it does leave quite an oil slick in my garage. I've looked in catalogs and on the internet but can't seem to find it. Any ideas? Thanks

Are U working with an Auto or Manual Transmission? Sounds like Rear Main Seal is leaking. Adding the Plate won't fix the Oil on Garage Floor.
