Does anyone have the production figures for the Club Sedan 70C with the 312 V8?

In the "The Nifty Fifties Fords" published in 1974 the production figures for 1956 read 1955 and 1955 rear 1954.

They show the 1957 figures as 1956.

Correcting their errors it shows the 1956 70C had only 41 with the 312 v8. Is my car really that rare or are these figures all wrong.

Let me know if you have better figures and the source of the information.

Thanks

Jim

If anyone would know its John Rottella who has his own site called 'Lovefords.org".He has all kinds of reference material.Go to his site and click on "contact us" at top of home page.I do know that the 312 was not available in any car except T-bird until March of 1956.Regards Mark

Howdy to all.

My 56 T Bird has the original 312 and was manufactured in Nov of 1955.

Data plate has a "P" designation and all numbers match the original gate invoice that I have.

So the Birds got the 312 in 55.Dont know when the passenger cars recieved the 312.

Mark,

I was just kidding, doesn't everyone with a Y-Block have a 312, including the ones for sale on E-Bay.

Actually my '55 Ranchwagon does have a 312 and it is from a '57 Bird, timing chain cover, dot on crank flange and all.

Hey there Oldmic,The 1956 T-Bird got the 312 1st.You have an early production 56.The point I was making is that the 312 was ONLY available in the Bird until as I said before March 56 when it could be ordered in any of the passenger car lines. There was a fourth printing of owners manuals when the 312 became available to order because the book previously only had specs on the 292.Regards ,Mark

Mark is likely correct, 312s in 1956 went to Mercs, T-birds & Police cars first. Then in the Spring were available to the general public in Fords. I don't recall who, but someone did some research on this subject & found that only about 17% of 56 Fords were equipped with 312s...Of course nearly "all" e bay cars are 312s!

I once met a gentleman at a car show with a 55 crown and he swore his car came factory with a 312. I asked him if his vin started with a "U" and he said yes. When I informed him that that meant his car came from the factory with a 272 he was red and furious, I thought he was going to go off the deep end so I strolled away from him.

Amazing that there are so many more 312's out there than ever produced.
