Having played around with the power seat in my 56, I think Florida Phil has your answer.

It's been a while since I had my seats out and I have never tried to operate the seat motors out of the car. I believe your problem is because the tube is not attached to the seat.

I have gotten the both seat motors to operate, forward and backward (the seat is removed and not fastened to the motors). My question is that both motors are spinning the outside tube. Isn't the jack screw inside the tube supposed to spin and not the outside tube? Are they bound up or is it because I dont have the tubes fastened to the seat. I tried to hold the outside tube and run the motors but could not hold the tubes. Too much torque. Any thoughts? Thanks Charlie
