I recently installed Granada disk brakes on my 57 Ford. I used the Granada master cylinder and brake pedal pushrod. I also used the proportioning valve from the Granada. My problem is that I can not get them to bleed properly. I need help working this out as I am out of ideas.

Can you; beg, borrow, steal or rent a power vacuum bleeder?

Can you tell us some more? What are your issues? Is the master cylinder new or rebuilt? Do the rear brakes bleed OK? Hard to guess what might be wrong and much harder to offer advice. Pete

Do you have about 1/16 of play between the rod and the master cylinder? You need this so the cylinder operates properly.

Are the bleeders located at the top of the calipers?   If not the calipers are swaped right to left and you will never get the air out. The bleeder needs to be on top

The master cylinder is new and is actually the second on I have tried. The first was one listed with all the pats needed for this conversion. This parts list was taken off the internet.

The second master cylinder tried was a rebullt Granada master cylinder using the brake push rod supplied and I used the proportioning valve from a Granada. I have been unable to get the rear drum brakes to bleed as well as the front Disk. The brake pedal will pump up ok and you think it is ok. However after a few seconds of being released it will go down to the floor. I would like to know which master cylinder has been used successfully along with which brake push rod and proportioning valve. I feel my problem may be in the master cylinder as I have no leaks in the system.

When you pump up the system do you get any flow out of the rear lines?

I hope this isn't a dumb question but did you bleed the Master cylinders before installing? Also, if you did, try opening the lines to and from the distribution valve and pump to make sure the air is out of them.

I installed the same basic system on my 56 Victoria with the Granada disc brakes. Bled out with no problem. Chuck in NH

I have the Granada conversion - rebuilt Granada master (for non-power brakes), the granada porportioning/combination valve from the donor car. I had to use my old rod from the pedal to the master which I also had to modify. If I remember correctly, the rod that came with the rebuilt master was too long, hence the modified original rod. I again want to remind you that you need about 1/16 of pay between the rod and master cylinder so the cylinder returns completely. I didn't have any problems with bleeding. I did bleed the master before installing.

Thanks to all of you for your help. I find that the stock 57 Ford brake rod seem to fit just fine allowing a very small amout of play when released. The master cylinder feels as if it has completely released or returned. I have found a leak on the front brakes that I had not noticed before. It is on a brass "T" that uses two copper washers and connect to the brake hose on the drivers side. Hopefully when this leak is repaired it will bleed properly.

Which brake lines did you use on the front? Chuck in NH
