HELP! Does anyone know #'s on Y-Block, casting # ECZ 6015-C on side of block. The 4 front main bearing caps have casting #ECZ 6329-A, rear main has casting # ECZ 6325-A. This block was bored .030ths, decked .010ths and supposedly lined bored. Why the difference in the main bearing cap #'s? Thank you, Charlie, Central Fl.

Charlie: The rear cap is shorter than the others, so it is a different casting. John in Selma, IN

I just took a recently acquired 312 engine apart to have it hot tanked. I put the main caps back on the block, and they didn't want to sit flush. I tried to toe them in, but didn't sit flush. Is this normal with the crank shaft out? I tried them in their original positions.

If the block is good, the caps will be tight. To prevent breaking a cap, it’s recommended to reinstall them with the main bolts in place and either lightly tap them down with a hammer or use the bolts to pull them down evenly.

Thanks Ted, I guess that's a good sign then. I was afraid to force them down. I did start the bolts and evenly pull them down, but not all the way. The machine shop said they would take care of that. Now I just have to figure out how I want to build it. I was going to put it in my 57, and then overhaul the 312 in it, but now I'm thinking about finding a nice 2 door sedan.
