Guys,

I just purchased a pair of "PORTED" big valve 113 heads. I can't tell if they have been milled.

I would assume they have. As the porting was done by a local "Speed Shop"

Where do I measure these heads to know if they have been milled and how much.

I hope not much, as I don't want to cut my "E" code manifold if possible.

I also got a "complete set of very good 1.54 rockers with shafts and stands. The guy also threw in a set of " Big 57 dual exhaust manifolds".



Paid $500 for the lot. Did I do GOOD? Oh forgot he also threw in an aluminum adaptor to add a T-5 trans to the Y-Block bell housing.



Help with the measuring of the 113 heads if you can.

If they have been worked and in good condition that sounds like a fair price for all that you got. There is a pad on the end of the head (block side) that should measure 1", if they have been cut just subtract that measurment for 1" and you have the amount removed.

I bought a set of 113s that had been to the machine shop and a set of 1.54:1 rockers for $165.00. had valve job done for $150.00. Shaved .025 .

The pads to measure are just about directly under each spark plug. I guess they did this so if a head was warped and machined flat the end pads may read different from the center ones?

I recently took a pair of heads to my machinist to be fixed.  The pads on one head got progressively smaller from one end to the other.  The CCs in the chambers also did the same thing.  Someone had milled it crooked at some point.  Bill straightened out that problem and milled the other one to the same pad thickness, and all 8 chambers checked within 1 CC of each other.  So your statement about milling a warped head producing different thickness pads is right on.
