Most of the 1958 and newer Ford oem Y camshafts are ground on 113° lobe centers.  While the as ground lobe centerline does not change when installing the camshaft, it can be installed advanced or retarded.  When installing those camshafts, I will install with 4-6° advance which equates to 107-109° intake lobe centerlines.  That in turn makes the exhaust lobe centerlines 117-119°.  No matter how you install that particular camshaft, it will always add up to 226° between the intake and exhaust lobe centerlines.  The actual lobe centerlines on a camshaft can ve verified during the cam degree in process.

If simply installing the camshaft so the sprocket marks are 12 pins apart and not actually degreeing in the camshaft, the actual cam timing could be anywhere.  Have seen 18° off in both directions with the timing marks being where they need to be.  Hence the need to actually degree in the camshaft.  A compression test can sometimes point you in the direction of too much advance or too much retard on a camshaft.  One tooth off when installing the chain is a common error and most engines will still start and run like that.

Just joined but have been reading here for quite some time. Can someone tell me what the cam centerline degrees would have been on a 1964 292.
