Is anyone out there familiar with the Allen Syncograph distributor machine? Is there a way to convert them to work with a full electronic distributor like MSD or Mallory? I recently obtained a complete working machine including the consoles and the 4 removable tune up teste equipment. Chuck in NH

Chuck. I’ve not even heard of an Allen Syncograph distributor machine. Can you post a picture of it? I converted my 1950’s Sun Distributor Machine to work on non-points distributors so I would suspect you could do the same with your particular machine.

I have a couple of SUN 504s, and both came with "pulse amplifiers" for setting up solid state ignitions. Don't know if they will work on other brands though.

Daniel, How do they hook up to the system? I have 1 lead wire that goes to the distributor positive lead. I used it to set up my old Mallory single point tonight and it worked great. If it's a simple hookup could I borrow one to try it on my electronic ignition? Chuck in NH

Chuck. Any idea what year the machine was made? Just curious. My latest Sun Machine is a 1950 model.

Ted, It's a 1958 model. It has specs up to then. I found that the Mallory boat distributor has a total advance of 18deg. Chuck

Chuck,
Good question. I don't have the SUN bulletins that explain hook-up/use, without which, loan would likely be moot. I may eventually sell one of the PAs after I get the machines sorted out/rebuilt, since I am strictly a points guy. They turn up on ePay occasionally, and someone is making/selling new ones.
Billy,
One of the 504s has some damage and was destined for parts donor, but if I ever get around to fixing/testing it....?

I have bid on some on Epay but lost them the last minute. Daniel, what most people throw in the junk, I restore and use it so don't let it go for scrap.
