Hello Members  Been searching for a for a metal fuel filter with 5/16 female inverted flare in and out. Smaller the better. Thanks for any info.

Inline or canister?

Hello  What i need  is one that looks like the inline type with hose barbs, but with 5/16 inverted flare in and out.  Been to several parts stores, first thing they ask what car it for. It is a hot rod they go blank. Thanks for reply.

Yeah.  What gets me is when I go to a parts store, give them the part number and they ask what car it's for.  I suppose their computer is programmed to fill in that blank so they can proceed to look up what shelf the part is on.  In answer toi your question, could you make a couple of short flared 5/16 tubes and connect a filter with rubber hoses.  Probably too  messy for a hot rod though.

Thanks John  Gave me a thought, if out and in are 5/16  od might be able to flare  (male) in and out hose barb ends.  Or compression type joint.  Might not be enough room for flaring  tool and nut though. This would be hot rodding.

Have yu tried Amazon and Ebay?  Check Summit and Jegs.  Maybe look into something like this. AN fittings, but there are adapters available

Hello  Yes I have searched after market filters. Problem is making is work by adaptors makes total length  too long. Surely somebody must make one.  Thanks Paul 

Paul, as I sat in my porch swing enjoying the morning breeze, my mind must have awoken to your search.  I realized that not exactly an inliine filter, there are cannister type filters with  5/16 inverted flare ports on each side of a cannister, of which the bottom half of the canister unscrews to access a pleated paper filter about 2inches diameter and 3  inches tall (rough estimates).  I have one on one of my Y-Blocks.  I think they were used on some Ford trucks back in the day.  The replacement filter element carries a '64 part number.  I think mine came off a Y-block powered truck.  GM used that style on school buses back in the 60s, but they had 3/8 inverted flares.

Along the same thought process as John, here are a couple of pictures of a canister filter off of a 223 Ford six cylinder that’s been adapted to a Ford Y.  This particular filter has a 5/16” inverted flair on its inlet side and a 5/16” nipple on the outlet side.
