g'day guys a question for the engineers out there is the hex for the oil pump shaft part of the dizzy drive or part of the dizzy shaft its a 55-56 distributor. john when you read this bad luck about the hurricane at least it was no worse than a battery still a nuisence though frank a 5 grand clutch dump im surprised the diff is still in the car if i did that in my rotory it would rip the rear end out.

Moz: Not exactly clear on your question, but the oil pump drive shaft is a separate piece of hex shaft. Both the dizzy and the oil pump have female hexes (no, this isn't sex related) that the shaft fits into. The dist gear is driven by the camshaft gear, and the dist drives the oil pump through the hex shaft. John in Selma, IN

Moz: OK, now I see what you're asking. The hex (that's sex spelled with an h) is in the distrubutor shaft. I know that's not what you wanted to hear. John

Moz , You can buy a recon dizzy through NAPA ( I think around $79.00 US each ). Only problem is they won't post outside USA ??? Don't know why ???. I bought 2 of them .One was like new , the other one was RS . had to get in rebushed .It wasn't worth sending it back .Too much BS. I had them posted to a mate in US . Then had him send them to me . I also just bought a MSD billet dizzy from Speedway Motors in NE .They are great to deal with . Regards Lon

I think if you check autozone they are cheaper again.$39.00 plus $20.00 core.Napa likely wont mail outside USA because if buyer refuses to pay import taxes etc. and the item is returned to sender they have to pay taxes etc when it re-enters USA just to get their item back.Just a reminder,if you go to the later distributor you will also need cap and rotor. Regards Mark

Moz, You may want a new hex shaft also if the dizzy stripped out, the shaft end may not be all that good any more and you wouldn't want to strip a new one. I bought a new distributor from NAPA, I take that back, it was PEP Boys and it was under $50.00. The housing shaft was triangle and when I looked at the numbers it was a D9 prefix so it was a 69 distributor and I thought they sent me the wrong one but when I compared it to an original all the critical places matched so its in the car and working now. Like Frank said, Let us know, Im sure we can get one and send it to you.
